I was also looking for how to link a PDF I wanted to create a link in an article and this suggestion worked perfectly. I imagine it working the same way it does in JCE when you create a link, but I need that same functionality for Menu Items.
All I can seem to find is to link to category listings of all my pdf's or a listing for a particular category.

Let's do is the easy way Put your PDF whereever you want it and copy down the path for an absolute link. Create a menu item whereever you want it called "My PDF". This would be an external link. Copy the exact path from above, set it to open in a new browser window with or without the web menu bar, save, and you're done.
Follow the steps below to enable the plugin in the editor interface. We will be demonstrating the use of the code option to display the PDF file. In our current testing, the editor button option to embed a PDF does not work.
