External monitor works fine. I opened the top and bottom of the laptop, and checked the connection on both sides, it seems fine. Is it possible that the cable is getting squished in the hinge.. Lately I have been using the laptop without the LCD bezel, and I removed the left speaker to give the cable more breathing room.
I think this is ridiculous! Have you ever seen something like this? Your description sounds like a problem with the LCD screen. Apparently there is a bad solder joint somewhere on the LCD controller and it fails intermittently. It depends on what kind of noise you have. In some cases cleaning the fan will help. Can you or anyone post it? FWIW the one listed here is the previous series.

I suggest you clean it using cotton buds soaked in soapy water then lubricate the fan bearing with castor oil using an injection needle. It recently stopped functioning. Charlie Blair, Could be memory failure. Try reconnecting memory modules, make sure they make good connection with the slots. Try removing memory modules one by one. Test the laptop with each module separately. One of the modules could be bad and the laptop will start when the bad module is removed. I have sony vaio laptop, buy from Spain, malaga. When i slapped it little, it starts working… and after few days… it power on but nothing on screen….. Nice resource! Need to swap hard drive. Could be memory failure. Try replacing the memory module with a new one and test the laptop again. Do you have two memory modules in your laptop? Try removing them one by one. If one of the modules is bad, the laptop will start properly when the bad module is removed.

It saves alot of money to those who wants to do the job own their own. Tried your guide for VGN-N but there still seems to be something holding the keyboard as I am unable to release the 5 tabs. So the trick is to keep prising the keyboard at the end where the 3 screws were and it will eventually unstick. This is Khondker from Bangladesh. It was working fine for 4 months.
But now a problem has appeared. The problem is — When I switch on or power my laptop. It starts. The power indicator light remains green. But my Lcd screen appears black. I reinstalled my system, but no progress. At the time of booting, my screen shows light for 1 second, after that it remains black. If I plug other monitor it shows the screen there properly.
But my laptop screen remains black. The bottom panel was easy enough to remove, but that only gets me access to the RAM and the Wireless card. Go to the device manager and find the webcam in there. Right click on the webcam and uninstall the driver. Now reboot the laptop and let it detect the webcam and reinstall the drivers.

Searching on the internet, I found that there is a recurrent grapic card problem on vaio fz series. Is it possible to fix this problem? I have looked all over for problems, and apparently Vaios have a lot of problems related to the trackpad.
Maybe the trackpad simply disabled? Also take a look at the trackpad software installed on your laptop. The problem is that when I power up with or without battery the screen displays Vaio logo momentarily and ever so quickly fades away.
I cannot even get output to an external monitor to view bios or the os. Take a closer look at the laptop screen after it fades away. Can you see a very faint image? If yes, try replacing the inverter board. I am only abel to see something if I set ON but the BIOS come out 2 times and all strange letters while in the external monitor it is showed perfect. OK, so I am a noob. Just thinking my comment might help someone. I got my Sony laptop blown up last night due to incorrect adapter. Now that its blown id like to fix it myself and want to know how to go about doing it. Toward the right half of the screen it appears to be fine. I am not sure if it is the screen or an inverter or something else.

Right click on the touchpad and uninstall it. Restart the laptop and let it re-detect the touchpad. I have never been able to plug to an external monitor. Laptops are not very upgradeable. There are not many parts you can upgrade, except memory, hard drive and in some cases CPU. This requires OS reinstall or cloning. Not a very common model apparently. Might as well do an overhaul if I can get the relevant manual. Look for two screws securing the DVD drive on the bottom of the laptop. If you not sure which screws securing the DVD drive, try removing all screws located under the drive. After that try pulling the DVD drive from the laptop. Before you buy a new screen, you should check connection between the video cable and LCD screen.

The Palm top screws have come out and the manual says requirement of B3 screws. Where do I buy them from. I checked with a service center close to my place but they seem to be more focused on how much they can fleece me. Can you test your laptop with an external monitor? If external video works fine and the problem appears only on the laptop screen, it could be one of the following: 1. Bad connection between the video cable and LCD screen or motherboard. Reseating connections might help. LCD screen failure. Bad video cable. It just happened to me that today morning i folder my laptop in normal way without shut down just like sleep mode.

If you can, try reseating the video cable on the back of the screen first. There should be a different model number for this laptop. Look at the lower right corner of the screen. What does it say? Look in the lower right corner of the display.
Your description is not very clear. If I understand correctly, your laptop turns on but all you getting is a black screen.
Can you see any faint image on the screen at all? Can you test your laptop with an external monitor and find out if external video still works? Maybe this is memory related problem. Thanks in advance!

Is this ok? What can I do to fix this? It depends on the way it flickers. Can you exchange it for a new one? Is it still covered by the store warranty usually 2 weeks in the US. Look in the laptop device manager. If you have a Bluetooth card installed it should appear in the device manager.

At first crackly sound suggesting loose contact, now nothing except windows sound at boot up is normal. Where could there possibly be a loose wire etc. Looked at dis-assembly pdf, but unable to find sound card wire etc. If you hear Windows sound at boot up, your laptop hardware works properly.
